Abraham Lincoln Elementary School opened in September of 1997 with an enrollment of about 530 students in grades kindergarten through six. It serves an area in the northeast section of the school district that has grown rapidly because of new housing developments. This large attendance area has a population of mixed urban and rural communities. The facility was constructed to relieve crowding in several schools where enrollment ranged from 650 to 750 students.

The school site is very near where the former Dewey School District #29 was located. This district was first formed September 4, 1864. It was consolidated with Medford School District on June 30, 1956.

The new building was cooperatively planned by school district staff and community members. Students from this attendance area go to Hedrick Middle School and to North Medford Hich School.
